Hi Tim

Well I have finally taken the plunge and purchased a copy of SkyDemon Plan. I did not buy the complete package as I have no interest in running SkyDemon Mobile and prefer to run the planning software on a tablet PC.

Reading the website I could find no reference to the requirement to also purchase SkyDemon Mobile however on running up the software it appears you also need a SkyDemon Mobile licence to run SkyDemon Plan in Navigation mode ?

Am I missing something here ?

Yours confused

Lufty

Hi Lufty

Your question makes it sound like you want to use SkyDemon planning facilities only; if that's the case you purchased the correct product. A mobile license is only purchased if someone wants to use the in-flight navigation facilities (whether in Plan or Mobile).

From the description of the product you bought, in the online store:

"All the flight-planning functionality without any in-flight navigation facilities."

Hope that helps.

Hi Tim

No I want to Plan routes and use GPS Navigation on my Tablet PC but do not want to run the Navigation function on a mobile device.

Having read the website again if you read the information under SkyDemon Plan you get the following wording :-

If you're using a tablet PC or netbook with GPS functionality, transform your computer into an in-flight navigation device at the touch of a button. Watch as the planning functionality is replaced by a full-screen moving rotatable map and approaching features display, showing trajectory ahead, airspace warnings, obstruction warnings and keeping you informed about upcoming NOTAM and weather.

If you read the SkyDemon Plan link you get the following :-

SkyDemon Plan GPS Navigation Features

If your PC is portable and has GPS functionality, you can take SkyDemon aloft with you with powerful in-flight navigation features. There are many tablet PCs and netbooks out there suitable for this purpose, and adding SkyDemon to them results in rich functionality on a large screen comparable to the top-end dedicated aviation GPS systems.

Please do not get me wrong I think your product is brilliant and way better than Proplan which I have used for many years and SkybookGA but in my opionion your website is very misleading and I can not find any reference to the need to purchase SkyDemon Mobile to use SkyDemon Plan in flight.

Regards

Lufty

Dear Lufty,

I'm sorry you feel mislead by our website. The product information pages do indeed explain all the features that the software supports. When I read your question last night I sat down with the online store page determined to make the wording clearer but after looking at a few possibilities I couldn't think of a way of doing it that didn't sound redundant.

The "complete" package says that it includes navigation facilities for tablet PCs, which is what you're after. The "planning only" package explicitly states that it is planning only and that it does not have any in-flight navigation facilities (which you're after).

Still, what's done is done and we will happily refund your purchase if you have changed your mind about using the product or want to purchase the complete package.

Hi Tim

I agree that I missed the All the flight-planning functionality without any in-flight navigation facilities from the store page however the problem is I would suggest that most people would read the product pages decide on which version they need and then go to the Store and purchase. I must admit I discounted needing the complete package as this includes mobile which I do not need or want.

In some ways you ought to be able to buy a "in-flight GPS navigation facilities for netbooks and tablet PCs" subscription bolt on to SkyDemon Plan or all three as the complete package but this might confuse it further ie :-

SkyDemon Plan

SkyDemon Plan with Inflight GPS Navigation

SkyDemon Mobile

Complete package including (SkyDemon Plan, Inflight GPS Navigation and SkyDemon Mobile)

How about putting a note on the product page under SkyDemon Plan that the Inflight GPS Navigation facilities requires the complete package ?

Has anyone else made the same mistake ?

Best regards

Lufty

Dear Lufty,

As you surmised, those licensing options would just make the whole thing too complex. We prefer to stick with planning only, mobile only or complete package for the moment. We'll certainly consider adding licensing clarification options to the product information pages, but only if this turns out to be a frequent occurrence. To date, this is the first time such a misunderstanding has happened.
